The standard we aim at
We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1, Level AA. We consider this site to be substantially conformant with that standard. It is tested with keyboard-only navigation, with a screen reader, at 200 per cent text zoom and with reduced-motion preferences set.
What we have done
- Contrast. Body text is at least 4.5:1 against its background and primary buttons are at least 7:1, measured in both palettes rather than assumed from one.
- Keyboard. Every control is reachable and operable by keyboard. Focus is always visible as a two-pixel outline, never removed. A skip link to the main content is the first focusable element on every page.
- The bag panel. Opening it moves focus into the panel, traps focus while it is open, closes on Escape, and returns focus to the button that opened it.
- Nothing is colour-only. Hallmark status, fastening mechanism, stock warnings and the barrel-cuff refusal are all stated in words. Diagrams carry the same information in the text beneath them.
- Images. Photographs carry descriptive alternative text. Purely decorative images are marked as such so a screen reader skips them.
- Structure. One h1 per page, headings in order, landmarks on header, navigation, main and footer, and tables with proper captions and row and column headers.
- Forms. Every field has a visible label. Errors are announced, described in words, and tied to the field they belong to. No field relies on the grey hint inside the box alone to say what it is for.
- Motion. The hero video is muted and carries no essential information. Where the operating system reports a preference for reduced motion, video is replaced by a still image and transitions are reduced to nothing.
- Zoom and reflow. The layout reflows to a single column without horizontal scrolling at 320 pixels wide and at 200 per cent zoom. Wide tables scroll within their own container rather than pushing the page sideways.
- Numbers. Weights, prices and measurements are set in tabular figures so columns align and are easier to compare.
Both sets of rules
This site has two palettes — daylight and evening — and the switch between them carries meaning about dress codes rather than being decoration. Both are tested to the same contrast standard; neither is a dimmed version of the other.
The switch is labelled in words, not by an icon alone. It announces the current state to assistive technology, and the initial state follows your operating system’s light or dark preference rather than overriding it.
Known limitations
- Some product photographs show fine engraving and struck hallmarks that are difficult to make out at any size. Where the mark matters we describe it in the specification block in words, and we will send a closer photograph on request.
- The hero video has no captions because it has no audio and no spoken or written content. A text description of each frame is provided in the element’s accessible name.
- The payment step is rendered by our payment provider inside our page. We have selected its accessible configuration but do not control that code directly. If you hit a barrier there, tell us and we will take your order by telephone.
Tell us about a problem
If something on this site stops you doing what you came to do, we want to know, and we will fix it rather than explain it away.
